Ike whipped the eastern Gulf coast of Texas pretty badly last night and this morning. By the time he'd reached my part of the state, he wasn't in much of a fighting mood. We got some stiff breezes and a lot of rain here, but it wasn't bad enough to keep us from a trip to Dallas for the opening receptions of a few shows tonight. On the way, things got pretty hairy as we passed through a fierce squall line that had formed in one of Ike's rotating bands. Interstate traffic slowed to about 40 mph for 15-20 minutes because of driving rain and gusting winds. But mostly we just experienced a blustery afternoon.
Down in Houston and Galveston and especially coastal regions east of landfall, people weren't so lucky. The power outages alone are nasty.
